A Level Results Day

Thursday August 16th, 2018

Thousands of university applicants around the UK will hear about their A-Level results today and will find out whether they got into the university of their choice or not.

Congratulations to those who have done well and have been offered a place. There were huge concerns around the newly reformed A Level exams this year and we will be finding out today how it all went.

Those students that didn’t get the desired results, and missed out on the university offers, don’t panic, there are options open to you. Also remember, you are not the only one, there will be many others in the same boat as you.

What to do if you didn’t get the results you needed:

Go to UCAS portal and check the status of your application.

Contact the university of your first choice. If you missed your grade by a small margin, they might still be able to take you. The reason for that is that other applicants might have also done badly and the university ended up having the numbers of those who met the requirements lower than expected so will have some space for negotiation open.

Failing that, contact your insurance option university  following the same principle.

Failing that, go to UCAS and search for Clearing. Start phoning universities on the Clearing list that you would potentially like to apply to. You will need your UCAS student ID ready as well as your results.

If you decide that you don’t like to take any of the Clearing options, you can take a year off, re-take the exams you need and apply next year. It is not the end of the world and you might actually need that extra year to get yourself more prepared to start the degree you are aiming for.

GCSE results will be known next Thursday, 23 August.
